The most gorgeously whimsical Jean Paul Gaultier button up knit jacket from FW1988 „Les Pensionnats“- a season playing with school uniform aesthetics, traditional silhouettes and reinterpretations of these with new materials and details. Within this scope of design, winter 1988 was also the season that Gaultier presented a hugely oversized bomber poncho coat- the first of many variations of the classic bomber jacket.

This knit (a similar one was featured on the runway as seen in the last slide) features intricate jacquard patterns on a green front, burgundy shoulders and orangey brown back. The sleeves and chest are kept in black, one in wool and one in velvet. In terms of embellishments there are no shortcomings: the front features a metal stud argyle pattern with little silver bells (the buttons are bells as well) and the sleeves come with metal chain trinkets, there’s black pom-poms across the front and two pockets on the sides.

Great vintage condition for its age. One hole in the left pocket has been mended & there’s some minimal oxidation on the metal studs around the armpits, visible in the closeup’s.
